County leaders have the backing of the opposition as they prepare to discuss the creation a new £43million town centre home for themselves.
This week Northants County Council published a business case for the new building, ahead of Conservative Cabinet meeting next week. County councillor Chris Lofts (Lid Dem, Tow) said they broadly supported the move, despite the Lib Dems gaining seats in Towcester, partly on the grounds of their opposition to South Northants Council’s plan to build a new council office block in Moat Lane.
Mr Lofts said there was some key differences. He said unlike SNC, NCC staff were spread out across the town in 12 building which was financially inefficient.
He also said Northampton town centre had seen a significant drop in trade when the council offices were moved out of town.
NCC said the current offices cost £53,000 a week.
