Local organisations were generous in their support of local charities last month.

A gala Valentine evening organised by Buckingham and Winslow Freemasons in aid of the Puzzle Centre in Middle Claydon raised about £3,000.

High Sheriff of Bucks Carolyn Cumming was guest of honour at the event, at the Bell Hotel, in Winslow.

Principal of the Puzzle Centre, Alex Stanyer, said: “The freemasons have given us fantastic support and help over the last few years and have given very generously of their time, skills and contacts to make the gala Valentine evening a tremendous success.

“The event has raised in the region of £3,000. This will make a very welcome addition to our Help Me Talk appeal, which aims to raise £100,000 by Easter 2013.

“On the same day, we raised around £2,400 from our clothes sale in Buckingham.

“I would like to thank all involved in these events for their hard work, time and energy in supporting our work.”

The Winslow Concert Band’s Spring Concert on February 23 saw another local charity benefit to the tune of £755.72.

The band’s Hollywood Meets Broadway recital, which attracted a near-capacity audience, culminated with musical director Paul How handing over a cheque to Brian Jarvis of Alec’s Angels.

The Winslow-based charity gives practical help to families of children with life-threatening conditions.
