New home for 2,000-year-old Roman shoes

The remains of Roman shoes discovered in Towcester are to be exhibited in the new museum when it opens later this year.

The 2,000 year old shoes have been kept safe at Malthouse Court after they were discovered during the construction of retirement apartments in 1988.

Martin Johns is coordinating volunteers for the museum and said the shoes had been stored in a cupboard for 25 years, but were buried underground for around 2,000 years prior to that.

Another information event for potential volunteers takes place at 11am on Wednesday, September 12, in the Chantry House, Market Square, Towcester.

To volunteer contact SNVB in Moat Lane on 01327 358264 or at www,snvb.org or call Mr Johns on 01327 352289.
