‘No threat of action against the college’

Bicester Community College has responded to claims it is facing possible action over this year’s GCSEs.

College principal Jason Clarke sent a letter to parents after an associate governor, Michael Waine, reportedly said the school could face ‘external intervention’ over its exam results.

In his letter, Mr Clarke said: “I can assure you that the college has not received any ‘warning’, through official channels or otherwise and the position of the college continues to be that it will be judged by Ofsted against the same criteria as any other school in the county or country.

“The unlikely external intervention referred to would be the result of an unsatisfactory Ofsted inspection on their next visit, a situation which faces all schools.

“We were delighted that many of our students achieved impressive grades and reaped the reward of their hard work and dedication.

“The overall performance was disappointing but not unexpected, while there was a small impact of the national English language grades issue, this was not significant.”

Out of this year’s crop of GCSE results, five students got 10 or more A or A* grades.

Results were up slightly on last year, with 97 per cent of students getting at least five A* to G grades. But just under 50 per cent of students got at least five A* to C grades, including English and maths.

Parents and other members of the community are invited to meet staff and governors at a college open evening on Wednesday, September 26.
