Northants County Council beat savings target by more than half a million pounds
PUBLIC FINANCE: Figures released by Northaants County Council have revealed the authority saved £500,000 more than it needed to in the last financial year.
Government cuts meant the authority had to make savings of £69.3 million by the end of March this year.
But despite the unprecedented level of savings needed, it has now been revealed the council reached the target, plus an extra £523,000. The money will now go into reserves.
The budget cuts included scrapping lollipop ladies, withdrawing funding from the group which provided Northants speed cameras, turning off half the county’s street lights, cuts to bus subsidies, social services and the loss of 900 council jobs.
