Jim MacArthur, the UK Independence Partys candidate for Northamptonshires Police and Crime Commissioner

A 68-year-old martial arts expert, who competes internationally with men half his age, thinks he has the perfect experience to be Northamptonshire’s first Police and Crime Commissioner.

Aged 17, UKIP candidate Jim MacArthur followed his father and brother into policing by joining RAF police as an aircraftsman. Thirteen years later, and after having gained his commission, he left as a Flight Lieutenant and spent the next three years in the SAS.

His first civilian job was at a major defence establishment which required a high level of government security clearance, and he went on to protect the UK and Europe from terrorists, illegal immigrants and drug traffickers by developing and advising the European Union on freight container security.

He has now lived in Northants for more than 20 years and gained first hand experience of the county’s policing needs as a special constable. He said: “I could hardly have taken a better career path to prepare me to be the PCC. Policing is instinctive and you need to know something about it.”

If elected on November 15, Mr MacArthur wants to source funding to boost frontline police, establish a zero tolerance policy toward anti-social behaviour by collating details of habitual offenders, focus on rural crime, and build relationships with residents’ groups.

He also hopes to foster greater co-operation between various agencies, and in particular hopes to break the cycle of domestic violence by working with them to understand the underlying causes of domestic violence.

He also hopes to see targeted victim support, where counselling is offered to those who need it rather than as a matter of course, and also wants to see victims informed if an offender is arrested and sent to court.

Mr MacArthur is a third dan black belt in Tomiki Aikido and second dan in Judo. For more details on Mr MacArthur visit http://jimmacarthur.co.uk.
