Pizza outlet to create around 30 new jobs

The first pizzas will roll out of the oven later this month when a national franchise opens its doors on Towcester high street, creating up to 30 new jobs.

On Monday, October 15, Domino’s Pizza franchise holder Haitham Alani will open a unit on the corner of Richmond Road and Watling Street.

Planning permission was granted in May despite objections from Towcester Town Council and nearby residents who feel that stretch of Watling Street is predominately residential and that it would not be in keeping with the rest of the town centre.

There were also concerns about delivery lorries blocking Watling Street, and their proximity to the Richmond Road junction.

Mr Alani said: “We are looking forward to opening a new store in Towcester and to employing people who live in the community that we’ll be serving.

“First and foremost, we’ll be employing people who can deliver great customer service and demonstrate strong teamwork skills, as well as boundless enthusiasm. It’s also vital to be able to maintain a sense of fun while working under pressure.”

Recruitment is now well underway for managers, trainee pizza makers, counter staff and delivery drivers.

Drisc Wardle, town councillor and Watling Street resident said that area of the town centre is predominately residential and the takeaway will back onto the entrance to a care home. She said the main concerns were smells, congestion and litter, but added: “It’s been empty for a long time, so you’ve got to look at both sides of it, but I do understand the objection and we were worried about delivery lorries.”

A spokesman for Domino’s said their research identified Towcester as having ‘great potential for pizza’ and that SNC planning officers were satisfied with measures taken to reduce noise and smells and that opening hours and deliveries will be in line with other town centre businesses.
