Police crackdown sees thefts from cars drop

The number of burglaries and thefts from motor vehicles in Buckingham has dropped dramatically, following a police crackdown.
Operation Arulent was launched after a series of thefts from motor vehicles in Buckingham since January.
As a result of the week-long operation, police have seen a dramatic drop in the number of offences of burglary and theft from motor vehicles.
The aim of the operation was to identify the offenders responsible.
During the operation, on Sunday March 10, a 26-year-old man from Buckingham was arrested on suspicion of burglary, following an incident in Fishers Field.
He remains on police bail while the investigation continues.
Buckingham district neighbourhood policing team’s new sergeant, Zoe Hardy, said: “The aim of Operation Aurulent is to deter those who are carrying out these crimes.
“We want to let offenders know that we are out and visible and take these offences very seriously indeed.
“We have brought in officers from Buckingham, Winslow and the Mounted Section and conducted high-visibility foot and cycle patrols in all areas.
“In particular, we targeted the time of the day when the offences have been taking place.
“During the operation a number of people were stopped and asked their purpose in beingin the area.
“Engaging with the community in this way reassures local people, helps us to identify who the offenders are and deters offenders from continuing to commit these crimes.
“Although Operation Aurulent is over, we will continue to maintain a watching brief working alongside the local neighbourhood policing teams to deter those who continue to damage and steal items from motor vehicles.”
