POLICE officers were down on the farm last Wednesday, encouraging farmers to have their agricultural machinery security marked.

Theft of farm machinery is a growing problem in the Thames Valley region, so the local police force teamed up with Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) and the official security marking scheme for agricultural machinery, CESAR, to offer farmers and landowners in the Vale the chance to have machinery and equipment protected by CESAR at a hefty 66 per cent discount.

Eleven people had machinery marked at the morning session, at Foscote Cattle Market, and a further 10 were marked in the afternoon at Oakley.

Items registered and protected by the CESAR scheme are fitted with triangular identification plates which contain a unique transponder, plus a number of transponders or ‘tags’ are permanently hidden within the machine.

Hundreds of miniature dots embedded with another unique number are permanently concealed throughout the machine.

And each CESAR system also contains a unique forensic ‘DNA’ solution which is invisible to the naked eye.
