Buckingham Royal Latin School’s U15 rugby team have lifted the Daily Mail Vase Final after a thrilling game at Twickenham today, Saturday.

Backed by seven coachloads of supporters at the home of rugby, the Buckingham team ran out 19-13 winners in an end-to-end clash against Essex-based Felsted School.

RLS got off to a nervy start and fell 3-0 behind to an early penalty, before quickly recovering to post a converted try for a 7-3 lead.

The game swung back in Felsted’s favour with two unconverted tries taking the half-time score to 13-7.

But any fears of Felsted taking the game out of reach in the second half were removed when an uncoverted try took RLS back within one point of their opponents.

With the game on a knife-edge, it was RLS that then held there nerve to claim another converted try before holding off late Felsted pressure for victory.

The Daily Mail RBS Schools Competition is the premier tournament in schools rugby, where school teams compete regionally and then nationally for the chance to play at Twickenham.

Around 1,000 teams take part each year at U15 and U18 level. All schools enter the main cup, before those knocked out in the early rounds compete for the Vase.
