Secondary schools raise the bar on exam results

editorial image

SOUTH Northants secondary schools have shown some of most improved GCSE results in the country over the previous three years.

Last week both Magdalen College School in Brackley and Elizabeth Woodville School in Deanshanger and Roade issued statements they were in the top 10 per cent of schools nationally for improvements to exam results between 2008 and 2011.

They both have received certificates from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust (SSAT). The trust ranked schools according to the increase in the number of pupils achieving five or more A* to C grade in English and maths. Schools had to show a minimum year on year improvement of 19 per cent to be in the top 10 per cent, MCS improved by 23 and EWS 27 per cent.

Head teachers Ian Colling and Pamela Hutchinson both said they were delighted and the achievement recognised the hard work of pupils and staff.

Sue Williamson, SSAT chief executive, said the progress measures helped raise achievement and expectations.
