As Bourton Meadow Academy broadens its reach in Buckingham, with the takeover of Grenville School and the new school to be built on Windsor Park, seven other schools in the area have now decided to join together and form a separate federation.
The North Bucks Federation is formed of the Royal Latin School, the Buckingham School, Buckingham Primary School, Great Horwood School, North Marston School, St James and St John School and Steeple Claydon School.
The schools, which already work closely together in several ways, say formalising this co-operation will improve the education they are able to offer while retaining their individuality and independence.
Headteacher of Steeple Claydon School, Becky Ellers, said: “We believe that by working together we can strengthen all our schools.
“We have long and proud histories in serving our communities and we are all unique in the way we serve our individual communities.
“Our schools share the ambitions of offering high-quality education and outcomes for the children and young people we serve. Our federation will be established with a clear vision of raising aspirations, developing a strong community and valuing the diversity of each school.
“We hope that other schools who share our vision will want to join us in the future.”
Headteacher of the Royal Latin School, David Hudson, said: “We are delighted to be able to work even more closely with our partner schools through this federation. It gives us the opportunity to learn from colleagues in local schools, as well as to offer whatever support we can provide.”
