A Buckingham small business is having to pay out almost £4,000 in added security, after repeated vandalism of its premises.

Student Keys, on Bridge Steet, has suffered five incidents of vandalism since it opened last February.

In the past month alone, two windows and a door have been smashed.

The business has also received telephone threats.

Student Keys was set up just over a year ago by two 20-year-old former students from the University of Buckingham.

Oliver Rowlinson and Philip Averell abandoned their Business Studies degree course to set up the letting agency, which now houses 270 students and employs four staff.

“We’ve had a very successful year,” said Mr Rowlinson. “Every term we’ve grown by 100 per cent

“We’ve worked with other letting agents to buy 40 properties in Buckingham for investors.”

The business has now installed a security alarm and is investing in CCTV that will send pictures to their mobile phones, as well as a fingerprint key cabinet costing £1,600.

“It’s a big hit for a small business, but at least we can sleep at night,” said Mr Rowlinson.
