Social housing providers shells out for young entrepreneurs
SNH Community Development Manager Becky Pavey, with Towcester Primary student Ellie, 11.
Towcester school children were left ‘eggstatic’ when a housing association provided them with a tenancy agreement to sign for their chicken coop on school grounds.
South Northants Homes, the district’s largest social housing provider, presented pupils at Towcester CE Primary School with the tenancy agreement after giving the school a donation of over £520 to helped set up a small business. Students in year six pupils used the donation to set up a company which looks after chickens, while collecting, marketing and selling the eggs.
Headteacher Richard Camp said the project would not have been possible without the help of SNH and added: “We hope the project can teach the children about life skills, how to look after animals and where food comes from. It would also be great if it showed them they you can source your own food.”
The pupils are selling shares in the company with the hope it will become self sufficient.
