Sportivate at Sponne

Funding has been secured by South Northants Council and Sponne School, in Towcester, to run three new Sportivate projects this year.

Sportivate aims to build on the legacy of the Olympics by increasing the number of 14 to 25-year-olds participating in sport.

Funding has been awarded to run three projects, archery, table tennis and Zumba, all of which will take place after school starting January 14 for archery, January 21 for Zumba and January 25 for table tennis. A small fee applies to Zumba and archery but table tennis is free.

Sessions will run for up to eight weeks and afterwards young people will be encouraged to join local sports clubs.

Funding for projects is available until March 2015 so there are plenty of opportunities for young people and sports clubs to come up with new ideas.

Funding can be awarded to assist with coaching, purchase of equipment, venue hire and incentives to encourage continued participation. Anyone wishing to know more about Sportivate or looking to run a project should contact Linda Savage on 01327 322078 or email linda.savage@southnorthants.gov.uk.
