Staff clock up the miles for charity

STAFF at Tesco, on London Road, Buckingham, cycled 236 miles on an exercise bike last weekend to raise money for cancer research.

Manager Malcolm Collins is pictured taking part in the event, which was part of a national Tesco initiative for staff to cycle the distance to Mars, and raise funds for the firm’s charity of the year, Cancer Research UK.

About 30 staff took part, with James Hayton cycling the furthest, clocking up 17.5 miles.

“He just sat on it and went for it, for about 45 minutes,” said Mr Collins. “We had a fantastic day and we actually collected over £700.

“I’ve worked in a lot of stores but I’ve been amazed how generous Buckingham people are.”

Tomorrow, Saturday, checkout team leader Jo Lawrence will be running a tombola in the foyer.
