Success for local companies at small business awards

Buckingham Equine Vets win the Enterprising Business category at the first Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Buckinghamshire Business Awards

The winners of the first Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) Bucks Business Awards were announced at a ceremony at Horwood House last Thursday.

Buckingham Equine Vets (BEV), of Wicken, bagged the Enterprising Business award, and came runner-up in the Best New Business category.

Bespoke fence makers the Cleft Wood Company, of Hillesden, picked up the Green Award.

The Bucks Fizz Business Group was named Networking Group of the Year.

And Buckingham-based The Clark Howes Group was runner-up in theTraining and Development category.

FSB regional chairman David Knowles Leak said: “It’s a fantastic thing for a businesses to be judged the best by an independent panel of people. These brilliant Buckingham companies should be proud of their achievements.”

BEV is a newly formed veterinary practice providing quality care to horses and donkeys within 20 miles of Buckingham, with a newly built state-of-the-art clinic.

Vet and company director Andrew Wallace said: “We were amazed but delighted to be chosen as finalists for these awards but to win one category and be runners-up in another was beyond our expectations. It goes to show what great staff, supportive clients, forward-thinking business partners and hard work can achieve.”

Alex Moir, of the Cleft Wood Company, said: “We are delighted to have won this award, and it’s especially welcome in this our 20th year of trading. We source our timber locally where possible, use hand tools to split the oak and recycle any waste.

“It’s great to get the recognition for our green approach and care and thought we have for the environment ”
