Swanbourne mum Ann-Marie McKimms launches Yano nursery brand with husband Bill - artist's impression of how the Yano nurseries will look.

A MUM from Swanbourne is emulating the communal principles of an South American tribe as she attempts to drag childcare into the 21st century.

When Ann-Marie McKimm started looking for nurseries for her two children she was disappointed with what she found. Later research through the local authorities in the region also showed a shortfall in the number of places available, including the Vale of Aylesbury.

So with husband Bill she launched the Yano family brand this month.

Currently Yano.co.uk is providing parents with a one-stop shop for information and debate on parenting needs. The couple plan expand the brand to include a chain of Yano Nurseries by next year, followed by; Yano World Foods, Yano Books, Yano Clothing, and lastly, the Yano Foundation, set up to help and develop programmes that benefit children around the world.

Mrs McKimm told the Advertiser that the nurseries would be built from scratch, encompassing the latest building materials to create structures which are passive within their environment, or carbon neutral.

She has attracted investment and is in negotiations over several sites, including one within the A41 catchment area.

Mrs McKimm accepts they have set themselves a tough task in difficult times, but believes with an existing shortfall in childcare places, housing expansion in the region, and a larger number of households where both parents have to work, she can achieve something no other childcare company has and added “This this nursery of the 21st century, future proof, no one is doing anything like this in the region.”

The nursery design forms a doughnut shape which she believes will provide a safe and nurturing atmosphere. It also encompasses principles of openness and the nurseries will be run with policy that prospective parents can visit at any time.

After deciding on the doughnut design Mrs McKimm needed a name for the brand and read about the Amazonian Yanomami tribe which lives sustainably within the forest. They build doughnut shaped homesteads within which the entire community has a role in childcare.
