Towcester to export cider and sausage festivals
Towcestrian Crispin Slee promting the inaugral Sausgage and Cider Festival
AFTER around 3,000 people attended the inaugural Towcester Sausage and Cider Festival the man behind it has launched a social enterprise so that others can raise funds for themselves.
Crispin Slee is a coach and referee for the Towcestrians Rugby Club, and is also a marketing professional. He come up with the idea of the festival as the club attempts to raise £275,000 for a clubhouse extension.
He said: “I immediately realised that it would be quite simple to pick up the festival and put it down in other rugby clubs to help them raise money too.”
He has now launched The Sausage and Cider Festival Company and a number of rugby clubs in the East Midlands have already expressed an interest.
As PR and marketing man by profession, Mr Slee holds a Masters degree in communication and will organise and promote the festival.

He added: “All a rugby club has to do is to provide the venue and provide some volunteer effort to help run the event itself.
“We bring the sausages, the cider, provide the live music and pay for putting on the event so as far as we’re concerned, it’s a fantastic opportunity for clubs.”
Sam Rouse, rugby development officer for the RFU in the East Midlands, said: “This is a very interesting initiative.
“There isn’t a rugby club in the land that wouldn’t welcome the chance to raise some extra funds. It has great potential.”
