CHILDREN and staff at Bracken Leas School had lots of reasons to celebrate as they opened a £13,500 outdoor classroom,
The ribbon cutting ceremony last week was also a chance for the school to celebrate the 25 years since it opened and an equal number of years service by teacher Bob Allen. Mr Allen said he had seen enormous changes over that time and when it opened one third of the 50 or 60 children were American.
Now the school serves around 450 pupils and is one of the largest primary schools in the county.
Mr Allen added: “I don’t know where the time went. But it’s been a pleasure to teach so many children and to see some of them return as parents.”
Deputy head teacher Jan Lay said all their rooms were named after animals, but the new classroom was called the Savannah, an outdoor space where animals live.

She also thanked the Friends of Bracken Leas School for helping to raise the money for the new building, which they gathered through fund raising fetes, quizzes, and discos.
