Two elderly motorists escape serious injury after A5 smash

The fire service and two air ambulances were called to the A5 near Towcester yesterday, Tuesday, October 9, following a crash which saw two elderly people trapped in their car.

Just before 11am fire crews from Towcester and Northampton were called to the A5 near to the turn for Whittlebury following the between the car and a lorry.

The Warks and Northants Air Ambulance was joined by the Derbyshire Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) as all the services worked to stabilise and extricate the elderly passengers from their car.

An 89-year-old female passenger suffered injuries to her chest and one of her legs and was taken to hospital, but her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The 92-year-old male driver had no visible injuries but was taken to hospital as a precaution.

DLRAA paramedic, Karl Bexon, said: “Thankfully, in this instance, the two patients are not believed to be too seriously injured, but it is reassuring to know we can rely on our colleagues in high pressured situations such as major road traffic collisions.”
