SILVERSTONE circuit will be swapping horse power for pedal power in August, for what is thought to be the biggest events of its kind.

Bicester Millennium Cycling Club (BMCC) have teamed up with Silverstone Circuit to present the Tour de France style event which could see up to 50 teams attempt to complete three laps of circuit in the quickest time.

Those already signed up for the invite only 9up Team Time Trial include; Forumla 1 teams, MotoGP teams, professional and semi-professional cycling teams and members of the armed forces. The events takes place on Friday, August 10, and will be raising money for Help for Heroes and charities supported by the circuit

A spokesman for BMCC said they are expecting 450 cyclists to take part and added: “The 9 Up TTT is, we believe, unique to the BMCC and the only amateur event of its kind held in the UK.

“We have been running summer team time trial events for several years and it is the popularity of these events that has encouraged the club to join with Silverstone in organising this event.”

Teams will be assigned a pit lane garage for pre-race preparation and will depart the pits at one minute intervals starting at 7pm.

Spectators are welcome on the night and all proceeds will be shared between charities local to Silverstone Circuit and Help for Heroes www.helpforheroes.org.uk.
