Internet access problems are being reported in south Northants and Northampton as a result of a major fire at a business park on Friday.
The fire at the JBJ Business Park, in Northampton Road, Blisworth on Friday morning affected four business units and at its height 50 firefigthers were at the scene.
The blaze took hold in buildings adjacent to the Blisworth Exchange, which caused internet access to be interrupted. This is still not fixed, as the building remains under the control of the fire service.
O2, which supplies broadband from the exchange, says the fire has caused issues in Weston Favell, Towcester, Moulton, Kingsthorpe, Hardingstone, Duston, Daventry and Chapel Brampton.
It has also caused issues for businesses, as card payments cannot be taken on chip-and-pin machines while the service is down.
The most recent update from O2, at 8pm yesterday, says the situation remains the same, and BT is “continuing to search for alternative ways” to restore the service.
An O2 spokesman said: “We’ve engaged significant resources to manage this issue and have been working with our suppliers over the weekend as we continue to explore alternative options to restore broadband service to customers.
“At this stage, the site remains under the fire service control and we’re unable to gain entry to understand the extent of the damage caused by the fire.”
The fire affected businesses including Protiler Tools, Carpet Line, Taylor Carpets and PLC Transport.
