AN American family living near RAF Croughton was hit by tragedy last weekend when a 13-year-old boy died following a gunshot injury to the head.
The emergency services were called to a home in Souldern, just after 10am on Sunday, January 29. A police spokesman said the circumstances were not clear but the death was not being treated as suspicious.
A US Airforce spokesman said: “The 13-year-old son of an active duty US Air Force lieutenant colonel assigned to an academic exchange program at Oxford University has passed away after a tragic accident. All possible support and comfort is being provided to the family.”
The ambulance service sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle with a doctor on board. A spokesman said: “We got a call at 10.06am which came in as a 13-year-old male who suffered a gun shot injury to his temple.”
No UK inquest will take place due to the Visiting Forces Act which allows incidents involving military personnel from certain countries to be investigated by their own authorities.
