When it is finished a new multi-use, all weather pitch will be made available to community sports teams in Brackley.

Last week Winchester House School lodged a planning application with South Northants Council for a 102m x 63m artificial grass pitch, with associated flood lighting, on its Manor Road sports field.

The school has wanted to build the pitch for a number of years in order to expand its physical education and in particular its hockey programme.

The all weather pitch and lighting will allow the school to make maximium use of the facility throughout the year.

The plans also include some parking and additional overflow parking for visiting schools, or for use by Brackley community sports teams.

A spokesman for Winchester House School said they were pleased with the plans.

He added: “The pitch will go on the current lower playing fields and will be used for hockey, netball, tennis and football throughout the year.

“It will offer Winchester House School opportunities for use, in addition to the artificial pitch we currently use, and will also be enjoyed by the local community.

“We are currently in the early planning phase and the project will go to tender in 2013.”
