There’s a chance for aspiring musicians to attend an all-day workshop with Winslow Concert Band on Sunday, October 6, under the direction of distinguished musical director and composer Colin Touchin.
Over the years, the band has gained a reputation for entertaining audiences with its family-friendly repertoire, playing music of stage, screen and big band classics.
Among numerous public engagements this year, it has had had the honour of playing during a flypast by the Red Arrows at Aylesbury’s Armed Forces Day event in June and at the prestigious Flying Legends air show at IWM Duxford in July.
Mr Touchin is the former head of composition at Warwick University and has won many awards, including winning Gold at the National Concert Band Festival.
He is well known as a conductor of local orchestras and is much in demand to lead workshops for students and teachers both at home and internationally.
The workshop, in the Billiard Room at Akeley Wood Senior School, is open to all players of woodwind and brass instruments, as well as bass guitar and double bass.
The band is particularly keen to recruit French horn, trumpet and bass players.
Enthusiasm is as important as grades, but it is recommended participants should be at Grade 3 or above.
The workshop will concentrate on different pieces of music, covering aspects such as dynamics, texture and balance between instruments.
The workshop starts at 10.30am and will end with a performance of the pieces that have been worked on during the day at about 4.30pm.
The cost for non-band members is £15, to include light refreshments.
Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
