Yellow paint menace hits town drivers

BICESTER is the latest town to be hit by a mystery vandal responsible for more than 140 attacks on cars across three counties.

A vandal or group of vandals has sprayed yellow paint onto the sides of cars in towns as far afield as Reading, High Wycombe, Slough and Milton Keynes.

Attacks began in the middle of March, but police have been unable to say what could be behind them.

The attack in Bicester took place on March 31 in Church Road.

PC Samantha Hall said: “The nature of the offences has led us to believe that all of these incidents are connected.

“The first reported incident to us was on March 12, and the most recent was on March 31.

“I believe that someone out there must be able to provide us with some information about who is responsible for this criminal damage, and I would urge them to come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.”

Attacks have been spread over Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, PointBerkshire and Buckinghamshire.

In total, there have been 141 similar incidents reported in Bicester, Brackley, Northampton, Windsor, Reading, Henley-on-Thames, Carterton, Witney, Bampton, Faringdon, Burford, Milton Keynes, Banbury, Oxford, Aylesbury, Gerrards Cross, Amersham, Newbury, Thatcham, Bracknell, Great Missenden, High Wycombe and Slough.

Inspector James Pearson, who is investigating the attacks for Northants Police, said: “This series of criminal damage is an act of mindless vandalism and we are working hard to bring the offender or offenders to justice.”

He added: “We believe the offender may be spraying the cars from the road as they pass by the parked cars in their own vehicle.”

All the spray paint attacks have happened late at night, and yellow has been the only colour used.

Usually the culprit sprays a line of paint along the side of the car.
