Machinery and wool destroyed in farm fire
A FIRE at a farm in Winslow has been described as a disaster by its owner after stored wool and vital machinery were destroyed on Thursday morning.
Fire crews from Winslow, Buckingham, Aylesbury and Milton Keynes were called to Tuckey Farm in East Claydon Road at just after 8am after a tractor caught fire in a barn.
Incident commander Tony Cooke, of Bucks Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire is thought to have started in the tractor and spread to the wool. The barn also suffered significant damage to its roof.
Farm owner Richard Haynes said: "The tractor has gone up completely, which we use every day of the year.
"This year's wool was next door to that, and that caught fire too. It just burned like an inferno.
"Our only consolation is that no-one was hurt and no animals were hurt."
Mr Haynes added: "It was lucky it was detected early on and didn't start during the night.
"I'd just like to say how quickly the fire brigade arrived and how lucky we are to have such a good service."
He estimates the costs will run into tens of thousands of pounds, and is confident the damage will be covered by insurance.
But Mr Haynes said the fire has caused a great deal of inconvenience, as the machinery was needed for hay-making and many other tasks.
An electrical fault is thought to have caused the fire.
