Police have arrested a man and launched a probe into a blaze which gutted a flat and shattered its windows.

Firefighters from Buckingham were among four crews which were called out to Arnold Cottages in Old Stratford in the early hours of this morning.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and causing criminal damage to the flat, which is close to The Swan Pub.

The British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service was also called to the scene.

It happened around 4am in London Road but officers shut the street until midday while they worked to clear up window glass.

A spokesman for Northants Fire and Rescue said: “There was considerable damage but there were no casualties.

“Police and the fire service are investigating exactly what happened.”
