A teenager is running a marathon in her grandfather’s memory.

Abi Cox, from Gawcott, is in training for the Brighton Marathon on April 12.

Abi, aged 18, who was a member of her school running club at Thornton College, is studying physiotherapy at the University of Brighton, where she has joined a local running club in Eastbourne.

She’s taking on her marathon challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Cure, in memory of her Grandpa, Richard Berwick, from Finmere.

Car sales manager Mr Berwick, who was a member of Stowe Golf Club, died four years ago, at the age of 76, from lung and bone cancer.

Abi said: “When he was ill, we were supported a lot by the Marie Curie nurses.

“My Grandpa was a massive inspiration to me and he will be a major motivation for me during my training and on the day itself. He always encouraged me to try my best and to challenge myself. ”

Abi’s parents, Tara and Mark, will be heading to Brighton to support Abi, who aims to raise £800 via www.justgiving.com/Abi-Cox
