Three local WI members were excited to attend a Buckingham Palace garden party hosted by the Duchess of Cornwall last week, in honour of the WI’s centenary, supported by the Countess of Wessex, Princess Alexandra and the Duchess of Gloucester.

Pictured outside the gates of Buckingham Palace are, from left, Gwen Blackburn, trustee of Northants WI, Diane Bradbury of Bugbrooke WI and Sue Hamilton of Towcester Evening WI, who was invited to the Diplomatic Tent to meet guests including past national chairmen and ladies in waiting to the Royals.

Despite high winds, the experience was described as “wonderful”. Wearing a navy outfit and white hat, the Duchess of Cornwall spoke to as many members as possible before going into the Royal Tent for tea.

Members explored the gardens and admired the rhododendrons, while the Yeoman of the Guard entertained those nearby with historic and more recent anecdotes.
