A husband-and-wife team are toasting the success of their boozer after it was named Pub of the Year.
Keith and Jane Templeman run The Mitre in Buckingham and they will be presented next week by the Milton Keynes and North Bucks CAMRA – the Campaign for Real Ale.
It is the first award for the couple who took over the pub in the summer of 2007.
They have five children between them and are expecting their seventh grandchild in May but the duo have found the perfect mix of entertainment to keep the men and women of the town happy.
Keith said: “You’ve got to listen to your customers.
“Find out what they like and sell it to them.
“The award is very unexpected but we’re very happy.
“I think it’s the first time a Buckingham pub has won it.”
Keith is the ale man and keeps the stock topped up while Jane is in charge of staffing and keeps the pub looking pristine.
Jane, who used to work at The Nimble Thimble in the town, holds sewing and stitching sessions at the pub twice a week.
But Keith makes sure the football is on the TV and the ale is flowing at the weekends.
The award puts The Mitre into the mix for the south central region award.
Keith said: “If we can win more then great but just being on the list, I think people will come from further away to have a look at us.”
