A bigger bus shelter could soon be keeping travellers dry.

Bucks County Council (BCC) is working with bus company Arriva to provide an upgrade to the X60 route through Buckingham.

This would increase frequency of buses on the X60 route, from Aylesbury via Winslow and Buckingham to Milton Keynes, to two buses per hour.

The proposal would also include installing a new, larger bus shelter at Buckingham’s bus stand – along with electronic real-time information displays at bus stops in Winslow and Buckingham.

Initial funding would come partly from Section 106 developers’ contributions from Buckingham’s Windsor Park estate and Winslow’s Verney Road development.

There would also be additional resources from Arriva.

The proposal is for two buses per hour from Mondays to Fridays, with most journeys taking a faster route following the A413, giving improved punctuality.

One bus per hour would continue to Milton Keynes, replacing the current Route 32, giving a regular direct service from Winslow to Milton Keynes for the first time.

Through tickets would be offered to Milton Keynes Hospital using Arriva Milton Keynes services.

Services to Oving, Granborough, North Marston and Maids Moreton would be retained on a two-hourly basis, including peak times.

On Saturdays, there would be hourly ‘fast’ journeys plus two-hourly buses via the villages.

Later last buses are planned from Aylesbury and Buckingham, and BCC is working with Northants County Council to provide a late evening bus from Milton Keynes to Buckingham.

Three newer single-decked buses are due to be allocated to the new route.

Potential exists for further timetable improvements, including later evening journeys, if the new routes perform well.

The proposal is due to be discussed by the Buckingham Local Area Forum, with a suggested start date for the new service of November 2.
