The winner of this year’s Winslow Citizen of the Year award was announced at the annual town meeting last Thursday.

Deputy mayor Gordon Wiseman told the meeting that Sue Keane was the unanimous choice of the awards panel consisting of the mayor, one other councillor and three residents of Winslow.

She was presented with a bouquet of flowers, a glass paperweight and a certificate.

Mrs Keane told the Advertiser: “It was a lovely surprise.”

Mrs Keane, aged 68, is a mainstay of many town organisations, such as the Winslow Show Committee, the Friends of Winslow Health Centre and Norden House Surgery and Winslow Parish News.

She is volunteer co-ordinator for Winslow Community Library and an active member of the Big Society Group.

She helps run the Friendship Lunches, and is a volunteer driver for the car scheme.
