A decision to close the Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) offices in Buckingham and Winslow is to be reconsidered following a meeting on Monday night.
The matter was discussed by AVDC’s finance and services scrutiny committee after the decision to close the area offices was ‘called in’ by councillors.
Following a robust debate and equal votes on each side, committee chairman John Chilver used his casting vote to refer the decision back to cabinet for further consideration.
Three petitions were presented at the meeting.
Buckingham resident Sarah-Louise Johnston asked if an equality impact assessment had been carried out before the decision to close the offices was made.
Mrs Johnston told the Advertiser: “I used to work for Bucks County Council doing diversity. I know you have to assess the impact on vulnerable people.
“I asked if they’d done an equality impact assessment and they hadn’t.”
Committee chairman John Chilver, who is district councillor for Steeple Claydon, said: “Given the amount of public concern that’s been expressed and the number of people at the meeting, I used my casting vote to refer the matter back to cabinet.”
