A Buckingham woman is running the Virgin London Marathon to raise money for the charity Family Action.
Rebecca Evans, of Embleton Way, undertook an internship at Family Action between October and January and found herself signed up to the event.
Family Action have been supporting vulnerable and socially isolated families within the UK since its foundation in 1869. Ms Evans said: “My dad ran the marathon 19 years ago and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.
“While interning, I was asked to try to find someone out of my friends or family to join the Family Action group that is doing the marathon and somehow, within the space of two days, I was persuaded to do it!”
Rebecca graduated from Portsmouth University last July, where she studied criminology, and now wants to get into fundraising in London.
She added: “For the past couple of years I’ve wanted to go into fundraising in this field because I preferred the idea of helping the victims of crime rather than working with the criminal justice side.
“I realised how lucky my friends and I are to have grown up in a nice area with supportive families and I want to help those that aren’t so fortunate.”
Ms Evans will run the Milton Keynes half marathon on Sunday, March 9, before the London Marathon on Saturday, April 13.
