Is it time to bypass the bypass?
Residents attending a public meeting about the Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan last month called for a new A421 relief road to bypass Buckingham.
People attending the meeting, organised by the Buckingham Society, strongly supported a call for the town council in the plan to a new road to relieve traffic congestion on the ring road and in the town centre.
Society chairman Kathy Robins said the new bypass would enclose Tesco and the new Windsor Park development.
Society member John Wilkins said: “It was very clear the meeting felt improvements in infrastructure must be guaranteed before we see further housing development in the town.”
The society also wants any new housing projects in the next 10 years to be limited to infill and brownfield sites within the existing ringroad, and not on the flood plain.
Chairman of the town council’s planning committee, Warren Whyte, said: “The future of the bypass and its role in the town is a high priority in the Buckingham Neighbourhood Plan.”
