Fundraisers Rose and Nigel Thorne hosted a garden party last Saturday in memory of their late son-in-law Thomas Rattenberry, who died last year from neuroendocrine cancer.

About 200 people attended the event, raising £1,441.40 for the NET patient foundation. Mr Thorne said it was such a success they are thinking of making it an annual event.

Mr and Mrs Thorne had intended to hold the event in their garden, but a heavy downpour in the morning led to an emergency relocation to the Red Lion pub in Wendlebury.

Mr Thorne said: “Because of the inclement weather in the morning, the local pub offered us the chance to use their restaurant area. To come forward and offer it like that was very, very kind of them and we welcomed it with open arms.”

As the weather cleared in the afternoon, the fundraisers were able to hold a barbecue in the pub garden.
