Children can step into the shoes of First World War heroes

Brackley War Memorial

Brackley War Memorial

Youngsters can pose for photographs in replica First World War uniforms as part of a centenary commemoration.

The First World War, which began on July 28 1914, saw an estimated 10 million military deaths and another 20 million wounded over five years.

To mark its centenary and remember the fallen soldiers, the commemoration will give young and old the chance to learn about the war.

Memorabilia, music and moving images will be found in Brackley Town Hall with refreshments provided by Brackley Country Market.

People can meet at St John’s Chapel for a short service of remembrance before a silent procession to the war memorial, where wreaths will be laid.

The service starts at 7.30pm on August 4 ahead of the procession, which will end at 9.30pm.
