The manager of a children’s football side says he is fed up of clearing up mess left by dogs before weekly games.
Michael Davies, manager of Brackley Athletic’s Under 7s football team, says dog excrement which is not being picked up by irresponsible owners is becoming a real problem in the town and is a particular issue at the Athletic’s ground at Brackley Leisure Centre.
Speaking to the Advertiser, Mr Davies said: “It just seems to be everywhere in Brackley and Brackley Athletic have to clear it up every time they want to play.
“You don’t get stray dogs these days so some owners are letting their dogs go where they like. I have to check the pitches on Saturday before we play because of the dog mess all over them.
“Sometimes there are no facilities to wash your hands – it’s so dangerous. There are signs up and dog bins.
“I’m a dog lover – you’ve got to let your dogs run – but if you don’t pick up their mess, it’s disgraceful.”
He added other people in town had complained about the amount of dog mess in the town through social media sites.
South Northants Council (SNC) spokesman Gavin Moore said the issue has been referred to the Community Safety Partnership and a PSCO has started visiting schools to raise awareness over the issue.
He added it is part of the council’s/leisure centre agreement with clubs using the ground to carry out pitch inspections before and after games to remove any foreign objects, including dog mess.
He said: “There are appropriate signs reminding dog owners of the rules and there are sufficient bins supplied both by SNC and Brackley Town Council on adjacent land.
