A £2.3 million refurbishment of the Swan Pool and Leisure Centre has been given the green light.

Balfour Beatty has been chosen to modernise the 18-year-old facility in Buckingham and will submit its final design for approval later this year.

Howard Mordue, cabinet member for leisure at Aylesbury Vale District Council, said Buckingham residents will be consulted on the plans as soon as possible.

He said: “This is a key milestone in the delivery of a major improvement project that will attract even more people to lead healthier lifestyles.

“We will continue to update our residents, users and stakeholders throughout the process, and we will be asking for their views on the final design as soon as we can.”

The new-look centre is being funded by a £500,000 Sport England grant and the council’s capital programme.

Plans include expanding and refurbishing both the changing village and the gymnasium. The reception area will be modernised and a climbing wall facility will be installed.

Work is expected to begin early next year and be completed by the end of summer 2015.
