A running club leader from Winslow is running in the London Marathon to raise funds for MS Therapy Centres, after her best friend was diagnosed with the disease.
Jane Simons, the leader at Winslow Warriors running club, hopes to raise a minimum of £1,500 for the charity by completing the gruelling 26.2-mile course on April 14 in about 3 hours 30 minutes.
Fitness instructor Mrs Simons said: “It’s going be a tough challenge but I’m determined to see it through and support a charity that does a lot of good work for people suffering with MS in the local area.
“I’ve run several marathons before but this year is particularly special as my best friend was recently diagnosed with MS.”
Mrs Simon’s friend, Trish Deykin, from Devon, won Gold at the world triathlon championships in London last September, despite battling multiple sclerosis.
“She’s amazing,” said Mrs Simon. “She’s definitely an inspiration.
“I hope I can do her proud.”
Mrs Simon is training hard for the Marathon, and last weekend completed a 22-mile run from along the redway from Winslow to Milton Keynes station and back.
On Sunday, she is competing in the Oakley 20-mile run in Bedfordshire.
