Microchipping keeps dogs safe and will ‘soon be law’

Dog owners took the opportunity to have their dogs chipped for free ahead of a change in the law at a special event this week.

The event was held at Wood Burcote House in Towcester yesterday, Tuesday, by South Northants Homes (SNH) and the Dogs Trust.

Amie Towler, resident involvement officer for SNH, said dog chipping will soon become law in the UK.

She said: “It was a great opportunity for those who may not be able to afford to get their dogs chipped, to get it done for free.

“In the next few years it will become law that all dogs in the UK must be chipped so this was a great way to raise awareness in the local community.

“SNH believes it’s hugely important to invest in our local area as well as working with our tenants and the other residents to build strong communities.”

Microchips were planted on 18 dogs and seven that came along were in fact found to have already been chipped.
