New Voice for victims and witnesses of crime

Northants Police will introduce the new service in October

Victims and witnesses of crime across the county will soon benefit from a ‘second to none’ service.

Voice will be run by charity Victim Support, on behalf of the Northants Police and Crime Commissioner Adam Simmonds, from October.

It follows the government’s decision to switch the funding of such services from national to local control.

Organisations bid to run the service earlier this year and Victim Support was given the role.

Mr Simmonds said: “Our plan in Northants is to make the care for victims and witnesses second to none and I am really determined to see this service learn from the people it helps and continually improve.

“Giving responsibility to local people for the design of such important local services is a really key moment and Northamptonshire gets to lead the way.”

Mick Studley, divisional manager for Victim Support in Northants, said: “This new service will give victims in Northants the practical and emotional support they need to find the strength to move on after a crime.

“We look forward to working closely with Northamptonshire’s Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner to deliver it.”
