The winners have been announced in the Northamptonshire Best Village competition including success for a number of south Northants villages.
Helmdon is the overall winner of the competition ahead of Stanwick and Weedon Bec.
Lois Weedon and Weston won the small villages category ahead of Rothersthorpe and Great Cransley.
Helmdon won the medium villages category with Syresham as the runners-up. Flore was highly commended in the same category.
In the large villages category, Stanwick was the winner ahead of Weedon Bec and Mawsley, which won the Newcomers Cup.
County co-ordinator for the competition, Barron Walton said: “The village of Helmdon is a worthy winner of the Northamptonshire Best Village Competition.
“Helmdon has been a regular entrant to the competition and is an excellent example of the county’s rural communities.”
The judges commended Helmdon for being a welcoming village whose residents were knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all aspects of village life and their environment. The website was complimented on being comprehensive and up-to-date with significant evidence of community participation.
The competition is organised by Northamptonshire ACRE and run by volunteers. It was sponsored by Hollowell’s Funeral Plans.
