The Brackley Players’ panto starts next week, at Magdelen College School.
Pirates From Atlantis is a new pantomime by Trevor Hughes.
Packed with traditional panto elements (Oh, yes it is) this modern pantomime opens in the underworld city of Atlantis, where the wicked Princess Sharkina and her henchman, the pirate chief, Red Rhumm, are aiming for world domination.
Meanwhile on the HMS Scuttle, Captain Augustus Cutlass, his crew and the ship’s cook, Purdy Peppercorn, are sailing to capture Red Rhumm and his band of brigands.
With mermaids, sea urchins, and a sea monster, this sea-going saga offers fun for all the family
Performances on Thursday and Friday, January 30 and 31, at 7.30pm, and on Saturday, February 1, at 2.30pm.
Tickets £8, concessions £5, from Davies and Partners, Market Place, Brackley.
> Jokes abound in Winslow Players’ production of Sleeping Beauty, in Winslow Public Hall from February 6 to 8.
This modern fairytale retains the original plot but adds in some entertaining modern twists, such as a texting Princess and a frustrated Prince who cannot get a signal on his mobile phone.
Performances are at 7.30pm on February 6 and 7, and at 1pm and 8pm on February 8. Doors open 30 minutes before performances and there is a licensed bar.
Tickets £6 to £8 from Jennie Wren’s Tearoom, on the Market Square, or on the door.
> The Weston and Lois Weedon Drama Group have Old Mother Hubbard as their seasonal offering in Lois Weedon Village Hall.
This new take on the nursery rhyme sees the impoverished Old Mother Hubbard seeking to marry off her daughter, Polly, to the rich but unpleasant Duke Ferdinand.
But Polly has plans of her own, and runs off with her boyfriend, Dick, to seek their fortunes.
They soon fall into the hands of the evil witch Hepzibah, runner-up in the quest to become Queen. Beaten to the top spot by the younger Little Witch Barbie, Hepzibah has a cunning plan to regain her lost youth – and it’s not looking good for Polly.
Performances are at 7.30pm on Friday, February 7, and at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, February 8 in the Village Hall at Lois Weedon.
Tickets £6 (£3 for those in full-time education at the Saturday matinee only).
