A new housing estate could increase the size of a village by 20 per cent if it gets the go-ahead.

Villagers in Tingewick say the proposed 85-home estate is too big and unsustainable and is calling on councillors to fight the proposals which have been submitted by Catesby Estates.

Ninety-six per cent of respondents to a recent survey said they were against the plans, which were put on display at a public exhibition in June.

Catesby Estates has now lodged its outline planning application, no 14/01958/AOP, with Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC).

The results of the residents’ survey were presented at an extraordinary meeting of Tingewick Parish Council on Thursday last week, when councillors voted to oppose the application.

Parish council chairman Peter Smith said: “It was a unanimous decision.”

Mr Smith added councillors felt the developers’ Statement of Sustainability was exaggerated.

“We don’t believe it’s sustainable and we don’t like the scale,” said Mr Smith. “It’s too big and the density is too great.”

Councillors also felt the proposed housing mix did not reflect local housing preferences.

Mr Smith said residents would like to see low-cost starter homes and bungalows for the younger and older age groups, but there are no one-bedroom homes and only 17 two-bedroom homes in the proposed scheme, with the vast majority being three to five-bedroom properties.

Other objections include increased risk of flooding, increased traffic and increased pressure on schools and medical services.
