A shortage of foster homes for cats and dogs in Northamptonshire has led the RSPCA branch to urgently appeal for help.

Branch adoptions manager Helen Watts explained as the branch was a small one, animals which are in their care, particularly cats, need foster homes. Puppies are also taken to foster homes, while older dogs are looked after by private boarding kennels.

She said: “We pay for everything. We supply the food, the litter, we pay for the vet bills as and when they come in.

“All we really need is someone who can commit to giving house space to a cat or cats and can commit to giving some love and attention.”

Mrs Watts said the branch was preparing to be inundated with requests for help as ‘kitten season’ was starting soon.

She added many of their regular carers took holidays at this time of year, leading to the shortage.
