An exhibition showcasing a small selection of Roman artefacts found while excavating Moat Lane will be free at Towcester Museum from February 15.
The exhibition will also feature a film by South Northants Council (SNC) on the Roman cellar wall. The museum is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays, 10am to 4pm. This exhibition will give everyone the opportunity to see the film, view a small selection of the pottery and metal pieces found, look around a small poster display and discover more about life in Roman Towcester.
The archaeological findings have been provided on a short-term basis for this special event and will be returned to SNC’s appointed archaeologists who are in the process of officially recording and cleaning all the items discovered, as part of the Moat Lane Regeneration Project. It is expected this process will take around one to two years, and there will then be a decision made as to where the findings will be housed on a permanent basis.
The exhibition is a joint initiative between SNC and Towcester Museum. The artefacts from the Moat Lane dig will be supplemented by additional Roman finds from Towcester, all of which are being put on public display for the very first time.
For more information on the exhibition to be held at Towcester Museum, White Horse Yard, 163-165 Watling Street, ring 01327 352662 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
