Do you know anyone who has made an outstanding contribution to the life of Buckingham during the past year?

The Buckingham Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards, run by Buckingham Rotary Club in association with the Buckingham & Winslow Advertiser and The Buckingham Society have been launched, and you still have six days left for nominations

The new Young Citizen Award is open to individuals and groups aged under 25 and living in the Buckingham area. Details have been circulated to schools and youth organisations, and headteachers and group leaders will have nomination forms.

Every individual or group nominated in the Young Citizen categories will receive a certificate, and the winners (up to three individuals and one group) will receive prizes in the form of vouchers donated by John Lewis/Waitrose, with the first prize-winners in each category receiving an engraved cup. In the Adult category the first prizewinner will receive a hamper and an engraved shield. All prizes will be presented by John Bercow MP on Civic Day, June 21.

The closing date for nominations for both awards is May 9. A shortlist will be drawn up by a panel of representatives of Buckingham Rotary Club, the Advertiser, The Buckingham Society and the mayor of Buckingham.

The shortlist will be published in the Advertiser on May 16, and the people of Buckingham will be invited to vote for the winners by May 30.

To nominate somebody for the adult award by email, send the name and contact details of the person you would like to nominate, along with a description of how they have made a contribution to the community (in less then 250 words) to editorial@buckinghamadvertiser.co.uk, with ‘Citizen of the Year’ in the subject line.

Include your own name, address and daytime telephone number.
